Zunächst wird das Modell von Schulz von Thun erläutert. In einem weiteren Kapitel sollen dann anhand eines Fallbeispiels aus dem Bereich der Lehrer-Schüler-Kommunikation mithilfe der Theorie von Friedemann Schulz von Thun Kommunikationsstörungen bewusst gemacht werden und Verbesserungsvorschläge diskutiert werden. In diesem Zusammenhang soll die Frage beantwortet werden, inwiefern sich Kommunikationsprobleme an Schulen, durch die es zu einer Behinderung in der Wissens- und Kompetenzvermittlung kommt, mithilfe des Kommunikationsmodells von Schulz von Thun vermieden werden können. In diesem Kontext soll ebenfalls diskutiert werden, ob dieses Modell ausreichend für die examine von Kommunikationssituationen im Schulalltag ist.

An dieser Stelle soll noch darauf hingewiesen werden, dass es in der Kommunikationswissenschaft natürlich verschiedene Modelle gibt, um Sprachfunktionen zu beschreiben. Ich setze mich in dieser Arbeit mit dem „Vier-Ohren-Modell“ von Schulz von Thun auseinander. Das Modell zeigt eine klare Parallele zu Paul Watzlawicks Modell vor allen Dingen im Hinblick auf Watzlawicks Regel „Jede Kommunikation hat einen Inhalts- und einen Beziehungsaspekt.“ Eine weitere Gemeinsamkeit zwischen den beiden Modellen liegt auch darin, dass sowohl Watzlawick als auch Schulz von Thun davon ausgehen, dass jede Äußerung mehrere Botschaften enthält, d. h. verschiedene kommunikative Funktionen hat. Darüber hinaus verarbeitet Schulz von Thun in seinem Vier-Ohren-Modell auch die drei Seiten des „Organon-Modells“ von Karl Bühler, nämlich dass jede details etwas über die Sache, über den Sender und einen Appell an den Empfänger enthält.
